"I've dreamed of hunting red stag in New Zealand since I picked up a bow as a kid. Sometimes, you build up a trip so much in your mind that it can never live up to your expectations; but that was not the case with Alps Outfitters. From the minute you land, the crew is in touch and you're at the property within 20-30 minutes. The land and accommodations are everything you dream of - mountains in every direction and in our case, roars going off too!
On the first day everyone in our group saw tons of animals and the zones were plenty big to explore. Our hosts made sure we had everything we needed and were there early to help plan the day for each hunter based on skill and goals. Not a detail was missed, and you could tell the guides are as excited as the hunters to get on some shooters.
Our crew each had an archery stag down within the first 5 days, which gave us time to explore the town, city, do some salmon fishing, and even some heli tours into the fjords. Everyone we interacted with were a blast to hang with and took care of all the details. Even down to taking us to a local butcher to get our meat properly packed to take home. There's a huge walk in freezer on site and the crew helped everyone either get their euro mounts done or brought some of us to the local taxidermist who was top notch.
If you're going to do New Zealand, Alps is the only outfitter to go with. We ran into lots of hunters at the airport and in town who did NOT have the experience we had and were full of regret. Every animal you'd want to get a shot at is available, and I can't tell you how lucky we felt to have the crew at Alps guiding us. Bucket list checked, and I'll be back!"
